2007/4/10The reasons the American Idol ratings are down one word BORING! Were spoiled! 4/10/07

There are reports that American Idol ratings are going down each week. Some blame Howard Stern and his quest to sabotage the show, by trying to get his following to vote for the worst singers. Some blame Sanjaya who is terribly boring and a below average talent. While other blame the judges for giving talentless competitors the pass through to Hollywood. Others argue that the voting system is the culprit. I personally disagree with any of the above.

First, I don’t feel Howard Stern has that much weight, that he could completely sabotage a show that is hailed by millions and millions of viewers. While Stern may have a following of 600,000 people or more, that is but only a small minority of people in contrast to over 33 million viewers that American Idol usually enjoys. Even with American Idols voting system of being able to vote as much as you like and power dialers have NEVER! In the history of American Idol been able to oust the best talent.
America has always chosen the best from original American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Burrino, Carey Underwood and last season’s idol winner Taylor Hicks. Considering all the competition vs. these winners the right Idols were voted for and won in my opinion. (Mind you some would disagree between Studdard and Clay Aiken). Sanjaya is just a distraction for the moment. Are the judges to blame? No, I don’t think so, they have to contend with who auditions and pick the best of the lot for Hollywood. From Hollywood the rest is up to us! Are the American Idol voters to blame? No I don’t think so. I think that most of the American Idol fans are serious and take who they want to see win American Idol seriously. American Idol in retrospect gives the power and choice to the people and may even be more popular then some political races.
Having said that, the question remains to why American Idol ratings are going down each week. My response to this is that WE ARE SPOILED! From the beginning of American Idol viewers were treated each year to better shows. Last years show really SPOILED US. For the exception of a few of the final twelve each of last years competitors were very talented! At the beginning many of us agreed that it was going to be hard to choose, we virtually would have liked to see more then one win. Last years show was unlike any past American Idol show. It was full of genuine enjoyable pleasant talent. The competitors brought their pipes, delivered huge songs to the audience and for the most part they blew us away week in and week out.
This year American Idol only has a few talents that are up to last year’s talents standards. The truth is that in comparison to last year, this years’s final twelve cannot sing to the capacity or the degree that last year’s talent did. They are boring in the deliverance of their songs, and many of us all find our minds wondering and becoming bored with the show. When we become bored, we will either do two things, turn to another channel and go back to AI when the few talents that we enjoy sing, or we switch off the show completely. Also when folks become bored, they figure they can afford to miss the show as they have better things to do or watch.
Simply last years American Idol competition raised the bar as it had never been raised before, our expectations of the competitors have increased and in my opinion that is why the ratings have went down each week.

Boring is putting it mildly...I am already waiting for next season in the hopes that the judges will pick better talent. These young people have talent but not nearly to the level of past years...and the heart and soul is missing. Watching last week I thought where are the personalities this year. Just not a good season...I predict Jordin could win over Melinda.

The best way to overturn the Sanjaya movement is to vote for your favorite person. I voted 200 times for Blake as he's the most talented all around.
