Truth Is Pagan Media That Bites: American Idol 3/20/07- They were having fun but were we?
British Invasions Night:
Show opens Ryan comes bouncing out and assures us that the final eleven are very talented people??? Really, I would say that statement is accurate with but a few AI6 competitors, but not all eleven.
This article is written and owned by Arne:
Haley Scarnato- Sang Tell Him" original artist the “Exciters, 1962”- She came, she sang, she sunk! Randy was hopeful for Haley he said, Haley’s back in the competition. Now Randy that would take a miracle! Paula was stuck on what to say so she enthusiastically said, “you have a girlish quality” Simon felt that Haley was shrieking in the middle of the song, but liked her naughtiness.
Chris Richardson- shares with us that he wants to finally nail a song! And show the fans that he can sing! He sang “Don’t let the sun catch you crying” – original artists Gerry and the Pacemakers (1964).- Chris was ok- I found when he tried to hold a note he went off beat in the lyrics. Randy was excited and chimed “another great performance” Really??? Idid not realize that Haley gave a great performance!( i heard out of tune lyrics with Haley). Beautiful Randy’s voice rang out. Paula said, it was all about Chris and it was sexy! Simon thought it was Chris’s best performance so far and that he didn’t make it old fashioned.
Stephanie Edwards sang “Dusty Springfield’s “you don’t have to say you love me” Stephanie did a decent job of the song. Randy said, great song choice, wasn’t her best performance. Paula said, I will give you the great news first, “ she loves what Steph was wearing”! Parroting Randy, Paula asserted, it was a great song choice but Steph needed to go back and have fun! Simon asked, “How do you think you did”, Steph thought she did well! What else did Simon expect her to say, I did lousy? Then Simon offers how he thought she did, that she was losing her edge and her soul. It was a bit night clubby (don’t know if there is such a word) - It was a cabaret performance and that she has gotten to old for herself, he said! He ended his lambasting with he just wasn’t crazy about it! He missed her passion and rawness.
Blake Lewis- sang “Zombies” Time of the Season”- I thought he was horrible and he looked like he had pyjama bottoms on! It was not even close to being just ok; it was bad all the way through the performance! Randy heard differently, he shouted to Blake “check it out baby! I have been a huge Blake fan from day one! (So much for the judge’s neutral position)! Randy went on, you made the song current, I give you props. Paula said that Blake raised the bar, really in what way? I wasn’t impressed with his vocal or his shimmering dance performance. Paula thought it was brilliant, I thought it was horrible. Simon said, it was a million times better then last week, it was about song choice and he kept the melody in tack, strongest performance so far Simon thought! I thought he has to be kidding! What strong performance is Simon talking about.
Lakisha Jones- sang Shirley Bassey's “Diamonds are forever”- Randy said, it wasn’t his favourite performance it was aight; he just wasn’t feeling enough Lakisha in it. Paula, offered that Lakisha made the right song choice and that she was smart because she was wearing a million dollars worth of diamonds. Simon asserts that we know that Lakisha is a fantastic singer, but this song was 50 years before her time. It just wasn’t his favourite performance or his favourite song! ~ It was all too old.
Phil Stacey- sang Tobacco Road- when Phil sings it is either a hit or a miss, he missed tonight, but not enough to send him home as Simon suggested. There are two and even three others that were far more worse then Phil tonight! Randy said it was pitchy in spots but it was pretty good! Paula said good song choice and pitchy. Simon said, it was not believable, and that Phil has a problem, he is being outsung by other competitors and he may have a problem tomorrow. I think many of this years competitors has a problem!
Jordan Sparks- Sang “I who have nothing” by Shirley Bassey- Jordan sparked the stage and the night with that song. Randy said, it was a very tall order, because Jordan was just 17. He was impressed and her lyrics were controlled. Randy thought it was the best performance that we would see tonight (he was wrong)! Paula offered, that Jordan had a great range and it didn’t matter if she was 17(I’m glad she said that)! Simon said she sang it beautifully, but he felt like jumping off the bridge, it was morbid and depressing. Simon needn’t worry there are plenty of people to push him off the bridge: D
Sanjaya Malakar – Sang “You really got me” Ryan had promised us that they were going to unleash Sanjaya’ wildside, well he lied! It wasn’t wild, this is the song that should have pushed Simon over the edge and made him jump off the bridge. Come on! Why is this boy in the competition, the only thing wild about Sanjaya’s performance is that we had to sit and listen to his off key bad rendition and sad attempt to sing! It was ridiculously horrible, really it was! Randy was shocked! Because Sanjaya is usually reserved. Randy was so shocked that he actually had the nerve to tell Sanjaya it was his best performance. Ha ha ha ha ha! It was a dreadful uncomfortable performance. Paula was stunned all she could say was go for it and have fun! Simon said, “the little girl’s face says it all! A child who was crying at the sight of Sanjaya. I was almost crying myself listening to him, but the child was crying tears of joy, unlike many of us!
Gina Glocksen- Sang “You got me”- Um what exactly was Gina attempting to do, all I could make out was she was whooping and hollering and jumping like a horse all over the stage. Her performance leaves a lot to desired and there is room for much and drastic improvement. Randy said, it was pitchy and not his favourite performance, but she had a good time! Paula thought it was far better then last week! (I disagree, I think that Gina sucked this week and last week) she can sing, but this rock thing is not for her! Simon thought that moments of Gina’s song was complete torture! She was off melody and it was not very good!
Christ Sligh- Sang “She’s not there” by the Zombies". Chris really has a wonderful voice, and his pitch is more on par then most of the performances we saw tonight. It was a pleasure to hear him after we heard so many horrible performances. Randy didn’t like it, he thought Chris was ahead of the beat and it was rough, but it ended good. Great song for Chris. (I personally think Randy is deaf!) Paula comforted that Chris’s vocals were good, but he had to be more personable with the audience. (I think Paula is blind). Simon didn’t think that Chris had a problem connecting with the audience; it was fun, but not his best vocal.
Melinda Doolittle- closed the show with a decisive bang! She sang, “As long as he needs me”. Melinda did not disappoint us. As usual she came out, sang, ran a triple play and hit a home run with her vocals and performance. Melissa brings it every week! Melissa was the best vocal of the night! Again! Randy thought they had saved the best for last and it was another strong performance. (He must of cleaned out his ears).Paula thought, Melinda was in her own league, she tells a story when she sings. Simon wasn’t sure if Melinda was as nice as she is, he had to ask! Simon thought she made the song sensational and she had impeccable vocals.
The best performance of the night: Melinda Doolittle
