Diana Ross may not know this, Oprah and a message to Paris Bennett

, , , ...

Diana Ross may not know this.

I have a live album of Diana Ross that is from the 70’s. I think it was called “ An evening with Diana Ross” from 1977.

I can remember her giving a speech and what an impact it had on the black youth at that time.

Article is written and owned by: Arne

Diana Ross said:

For those that would do half when all is called for, for them that would slip and slide through life at the edge of their nines never once pushing into interior to find out what wonders were hiding there. Being content with whatever gets them by. Cheating themselves, Cheating the World and Cheating nature. Diana Ross went on to say. I was at a nice point in my life and I realized that how wonderful it was to be young and black, but to be gifted! And to know what I wanted to do. It was doubly important. I realized there were a lot of artists that went before me, trusting themselves. “ Trusting”!

I forget what else she said, but I also know that it had a very large impact on many North American African youth, considering it was the 70’s at that time. It helped black youth with pride and encouragement.

Paris you’re only doing half at this time babygirl. Step it up little sister! You don’t need to phone TMZ and talk stupid. Uh huh, I am pointing at you as I am typing this. You know what I am saying.

I will leave you with this Oprah clip: that features legendary singers Be Be Winens, Shirley Caesar, Dionne Warwick, Yolanda Adams, Chaka Khan, Gladys’s Knight Valerie Simpson and Miss Patti Labelle! ( My favourite).

Then listen to the younger singers that are stars specifically Alisha Keys.

Paris, I was a youth in the 70; s and today’s black youth, have no Idea what it took to get us where we are now. Don’t let TMZ use you! We had to fight and those generations before us had to really fight! For our people. You better believe we fought! Not only in America but all over the world, including Canada.

It was artists like these and artists like Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Marin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, James, Brown, actors like Sidney Portier, Michael Jackson and the Jackson Five and many many other Black Artists and Groups that brought black youth through some rough times and had us think through their music. Now that is were young artists today need to be going with their music today, no matter if your black , white, red, purple, yellow. This is the reason why Taylor Hicks was so popular and he won. People are looking to see a revival of Good Music; we heard all the cursing and swearing we need to hear through both Gansta Rap, and Rock music (metallic, acid rock, ECT). Taylor Hicks gave us good music, that we could relate to, that we could enjoy.

I also would say Miss Diana Ross, did an excellent job with the competitors on American Idol. She did not try to put them down, she did really try to help them and encourage them. Well done Miss Ross. Just one word on behalf of Miss Ross. There were a few articles there putting down her appearance and performance on American Idol. This legend happens to be in her sixties, could those that are putting her down, say they could do better? Could they even say they could have as much staying power in the business as she has? Miss Ross did just fine, for a women of her status and age, thank-you very much Miss Ross!
