Merry Christmas Daddy

The Christmas lights twinkle and reflect in my tears,as I suddenly realize it's not even been close to a year. My daddy left us and his earthly home. He's off in the heavens to eternally roam. As luck would have it,he left his best in me from his sarcastic wit to his "evil eye" gene. My sons and my daughter know much of my dad. They'll always cherish what time that they had. But long before leaving his home here on earth,we all gained from his values of pride and self-worth. So my happy memories must dull the pain, and soothe my soul 'til I'm with daddy again.

My mother had major back surgery 11-10.

My mother had major back surgery 11-10. Originally all we knew was that the hardware had come out yesterday per XRays. Upon doing surgery this morning Dr. Fontenot discovered that her spine was broken from the "bottom to breast" basically. She had to have hardware installed in those areas, bone grafts a brace covering those areas and a protein gel to help insure new bone growth applied. She will be in room 240 at Regional for a week or so then will be placed into rehab AT Longview Regional Hosp. She may be in there for a month or more. Dr. Fontenot wants to monitor her very closely. She is on a Dilaudid pump for pain along with oral meds,Oxygen 4 liters per min.,Albuterol nebulizer treatments (for breathing problems). Dr. Fontenot said it was a miracle that her spinal cord wasn't severed and that she had not passed away. Prayers are appreciated. I'll return all emails as time permits. Please be understanding. Thank you.

My Daddy

My Daddy passed away 10-27. He was one of a kind and a truly awesome man that will be missed by all! I'm not really able to respond to emails at this time but will try to as time permits. I hope y'all understand.

Sleep Apnea

I had an at home test done to rule out sleep apnea. 60 events of decreased oxygen & incidents of breathing cessation were recorded. I've been placed on oxygen while sleeping. I went to a sleep specialist/pulmonologist and after examining me he seemed to think I had obstructive sleep apnea due to a malformed palette and an enlarged epiglottis. He has referred me to the sleep lab for an intensive sleep study to confirm this diagnosis. If it's confirmed the first course of action will be to place me on a CPAP machine. LOL it seems when I get one health issue solved another one pops up ... I think I'm just getting old *gasp*. Seriously I refuuuuse to let this get in my way of enjoying life to the fullest. I am a redhead thus a fighter HA!

Retinopathy & Macular edema

Well, I went back for a check up today and the retinopathy and macular edema are still present. The good news is that it hasn't gotten any worse! up The Dr. told me that it won't go away or may even progress if my blood sugar levels aren't brought under better control. DUH doh I already knew that thanks in part to a wonderful forum that I've joined. http://www.diabetesdaily.com/ I've been following a very low carb diet, exercising, taking my Diabetes medication faithfully and haven't been able to maintain a stable or low blood sugar reading YET! I say yet because I am determined to find the right meds and do what it takes to achieve this with the assistance of a great new Internist I'm seeing Thursday WOOT jester I'm remaining optimistic and have faith that all will be well smile Update on Thurday bye

New news in reference to the Diabetes

I went to the Dr. yesterday about my continuous high blood sugar readings despite the healthy diet and exercise. He placed me on oral meds and if that doesn't work within a month he wants to place me on an Insulin pump. I choose to be an optimist either way it goes! I truly hope the meds work but if they don't and I have to be fitted with an Insulin pump at least it'll make the Diabetes easier to manage and cut down on the injections. See, there's something to be optimistic about lol

Good news and not so good

My retinopathy and macular edema are still present but improved to the point to where I can drive and read with glasses woot woot! I was so happy to get that diagnosis I went out to Books A Million and bought a few new books to read lol. The Drs do however want to place me on meds for my blood sugar and reg. daily blood sugar testing. I wasn't so happy about that but got a nice glucometer to test on my arms instead of fingertips. There's always a silver lining to a cloud smile

Living With Diabetes

I was recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. It effected my vision somewhat before the Drs found it. I also have retinopathy and macular edema at the present time. The Dr. is hoping that it can be controlled with diet and exercise. I hope so as well because I hate being poked by needles even though I'm a nurse lol. Eating small 5-6 meals a day is new for me and will take getting used to. I have to remind myself to eat. I am an optimist and have not let any of this get me down. It has made me really stop taking things for granted and to appreciate even the smallest things in life smile If there's anyone out there who has Diabetes or has info. on it I'd appreciate "talking" to them.
