Opera extension: YouTube Downloader

Located in the Entertainment category, the YouTube Downloader allows direct downloading of YouTube video clips in all available formats and sizes.

The extension is well written, and very recommended over other extensions providing similar features.

Features

Since it is basically a flexible single-site user script that runs on all webpages, JavaScript and some Opera settings need to be enabled prior to use (and they are by default on a new Opera 11 installation profile).

After installing the extension, restarting Opera, or better, reloading the YouTube video page (possibly toggling JavaScript, too) may be needed.

It supports translation of the Download button text in a few languages.

There is nothing else to configure or toggle. Note that only some formats are available, depending on the clip. HTML5 player may need to be enabled for downloading WebM clips to be possible. Also, YouTube doesn’t yet encode videos into e.g. WebM at 1080p or MP4 at 480p.

I don’t expect the extension to interact badly with YouTube scripts or other extensions. YouTube’s joke of their WebM clips’ Save As context menu is now on them.

Privacy

The extension doesn’t connect to any third party website, and doesn’t collect any personal information. Since it’s applied only on youtube.com, feel free to disable it on Secure pages and enable it while Private browsing.
