Opera UK Users

Announcements for the Opera UK group.

Powergen.

Does anyone else in the group use powergen and more specifically manage their account through the powergen website? I can't log onto my account using Opera 8.5 or 9TP1. Are any of you having the same problems? If so, post a comment here or add a reply to the forum thread dealing with UK problem sites in Opera. I'd be interested to know if anyone has found a way around this.

I've just discovered that First Direct - who call themselves an internet bank, only support Internet Explorer. You can't print out a statement in Firefox or Opera, even though, for the account I'm on, they do not supply paper statements and advise you to print them out.. They've written to me to say that they don't have the resources to accomodate alternative browsers. I shall repeat that - First Direct don't have the resources to accomodate alternative browsers! I've replied saying they are pathetic.

Have you tried a forum search about this? I think it may have come up before. It's very odd. I used to bank with HSBC and their internet banking service had no problems with Opera. There could be a solution to this. Try a forum search for a file called ua.ini. If you add the url for first direct and =5 after the URL every time you visit that site Opera will identify itself as IE, so tricking the site into thinking your're using IE. Try it-it might work, it might not. PM me if you need any more help with this.

Thanks. I'll give it a go. I see from the Forum that this has been tried and it works.

I bank with HSBC and they only support IE and Netscape - if you try with anything else (well, I haven't tried in a while)it just freezes you out! Very frustrating. It's very annoying when you forget and try to log in with another browser - last time I had to re install all the certificates, only to find out I had tried to log in with a non IE or Netscape browser and the certs were fine!

Abacus-have you tried HSBC recently with Opera? I used to bank with them and my wife still does and she can access her accounts without any problems with Opera. I don't think we had to resort to any trickery (ua.ini) to get Opera working with the UK HSBC site.

Thanks Jezza, next time I log on I will try with Opera.
