Red deer rutting

, , , , , , , , ,

Watching the deer rutting yesterday reminded me of when I was watching them a few weeks ago. And I wondered what happened to the photos. So last nite I managed to find them and here are some of the better ones:

The rutting seemed to be more practice or the settling of minor disputes as they were easily distracted by passing people and stopped frequently, before sizing each other up and then carrying on
Things did get a bit more aggressive at points
But the other deer seemed unimpressed and just carried on as usual
And the sun came out briefly were a managed a few shots, the best being this one

Pond dipping today a dmaselfly nymph and the first recorded saucer bug were found, but were put back before I had a chance to photograph them awww  Nevermind, theres always next time

Bedfords park: Pond dipping and minibeast hunting, with a dash of rutting deer :)Heronry report 11: Feeding time again
