Snow in Bedfords, Rise and Raphaels Park

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Here are the photos from last Wednesday. The snow was still thick, despite the sunny weather and the fact it hadn't snowed for a day or two. Walking through Rise Park, I noticed something moving in the ditch right next to me. There, flicking leaves like a blackbird, a metre away, was redwing! It moved of but I could get within about 3m of it with ease, by far the tamest redwing I've ever encountered.

I managed quite a few photos, but didn't quite get the one I wanted BADSIO (before a dog scared it off) lol

I also managed a quick photo of a robin

In Bedfords Park I saw a fox hunting around the lake, as my battery died. By the time I got my camera up and running again I managed to snap just one ok photo

On the lake there were a number of gulls, both common gulls

and black headed gulls

And even some crows

The pair of swans had also returned to the lakes

I tried some photos of the deer in the enclosure, but I found it hard to exposure dark brown deer against a white background in bright sun! This is the best I could manage

A number of jackdaws were flying over my head too

Heading back out past the lake I noticed a kestrel hovering and then it landed. I looked across and there was a dog moving up the other bank, so I literaly ran along the lake to the other side of the kestrel to get the sun behind me, and I managed this shot BADSIO. They don't mention in wildlife photography guides that you may have to run to get your photos!

On the way back through Raphaels Park I found the redwing again and I managed one one photo BADSIO.

In Raphaels Park, a wood pigeon wandered across the icy path

A mallard walked across the ice on the lake

And some 'snow pigeons' (or doves on any other day :D) wandered about on the path

Nice pictures BADSIO! I really like the redwing and your little robin. Our American robins are very different from British robins, but both are beautiful and somehow comic with their round, round bodies.

Wow that's astonishingly close to the redwing. I doubt I get much coser than 30 metres to them before they're off. Great shots, and I love the fox in snow

What stunning photos! Quite different than our redwings!

Wow great series, its good you caught the Fox and still had time to replace the batteries. :D

What i do is, if iam just about to catch a plane landing that i really want, i replace the batteries just before it makes an approach, very handy.

Wonderful shots. All of them. Your Redwing looks very similar to our Robin in shape and size judging from your photos. The markings are different though
