It is only in their winter plumage that they show the long tail of their name. There were also some eiders

And barnacle geese

As well as some widgeon

The North American enclosures had some hooded mergansers

And a smew that stayed in the shade, so this is a low shutter speed shot

Further on in another enclosure there were some white headed ducks

The South American enclosure had some white faced whistling ducks

There was a species of widgeon(?) in one enclosure that I'm yet to identify

And this crane in another

There was some wildlife mixed in and in the nature reserve areas. There were plenty of gadwalls to be seen from the 'grebe hide'

While watching the grebes and gadwalls I also spotted a grass snake

Which got chased by some tufted ducks

The sun kept hiding behind the clouds but is still managed to get this in flight migrant hawker shot
So much for the k20d having "inferior autofocus" I spotted this pretty flower

There were some feeders at the side of the 'grebe hide' where I spotted a brown rat having a nibble

And finally, in two senses, an in focus, sharp photo of a greenfinch!
It only took nearly 3 years to get one of the UK's commonest birds!

Congrats on your Migrant Hawker flight shot Neil and glad you finally got the Greenfinch pic you wanted; worth waiting for. You never know we might bump into each other at LWT one day!

Your flower is (I am fairly sure) a variety of Marsh Orchid

Another nice set of photos Neil. I really like the duck chasing the snake, and would like to see it cropped in tighter, although I'm guessing it may well be cropped already. How about losing some of the space top and bottom?
I think the Wigeon is a Chiloe Wigeon (Anas sibilatrix), and the flower looks like Betony to me, or something similar.

@ Daniel - the duck chasing snake photo is cropped already, I try cropping down a bit more, top and bottom at least. I think your right about the widgeon
@Tricia - perhaps, alough Im currently visiting at a rate of once every 2 years! lol
