I set a quiz yesterday to ID the pond creatures in this photoThe answers are:
A: Greater pond snail
B: Waterlouse
C: Dragonfly nymph - this is probably a darter dragonfly nymph
D: Lesser water boatman

I got some other photos that day. Here is the darter dragonfly nymph, with a brave stickleback fry to the right of it

I got a close photo of the lesser water boatman

ANd one of its bigger relative the greater water boatman, also known as the backswimmer

There were also an number of the smaller diving beetle species

Thanks for sharing this information. I wanted to do some macro shots of freshwater insects this summer but I never got the time to give it a go. Nice blog.
