Last Thursday I headed to Hainault Forest Country Park to see if the frogs had emerged and begun spawning. My first stop was the lake were I spotted some pochards
Small mammal course at wildwood

On Saturday I did the second part of my course on mammals, this half concerntrating on small mammals and how to survey them. This involved learning how to use longworth traps and how to handle and survey what you catch in them. We started by going to inspect the traps that had been laid out the previous night. In the first trap was a new species for me, a yellow necked mouse.

The weekend before last I stole borrowed Sues Fz-18, so I could hopefully get some better photos than I manage with my Fz7. I took it with me last Wednesday to Bedfords Park, where i didn't really get to use the 18x zoom (500mm equivalent), except with this mallard on a log
Valentines day at Grove ferry / Stodmarsh

On Valentines Day Sue and I headed to a nice hotel with a resturant in Grove ferry, but it was closed so we thought we would do the planned 'walk after' first and see if they opened when we got back. Anyway at the nearest hide I tooka ll the resulting photos. This swan was moving throught he thin ice
