Britains most common bird

After the question of what is Britains biggest bird, I thought I'd ask and answer another question: What is Britains commonest bird? The first set of data I have used is that based on numbers of breeding pairs or breeding territories. This is because the actual number of each bird species in the UK rises and falls depending on the time of year due to migrations, breeding and deaths in winter etc, so the number of breeding pairs gives a clearer picture of the true abundance of each species. I also used this data as it is easily accessible on the RSPB website

Richmond Park Birds

I only covered the deer yesterday but I have number of bird photos from Saturday too (As well as invertebrates to come tommorow). There was a family of swans on each of the large pen ponds, the second of which I got quite close too

On sturday I visit birdworld. Its a zoo of mainly birds (as you probably guessed!) and along with many foriegn species, it also had a few that are found in the wild in the UK. So as this is the UK wildlife blog I figured I better keep to just them smile

my, haven't they grown!

About 3 weeks ago as part of my long post exam tour of the parks of Romford I wandered through Raphaels park and photographed a coot feeding its chicks(see here, second photo down). I visited again today and in roughly the same spot was a brood of four chicks: they all seemed to have survived and they,ve grown!

A visit to Raphaels Park and Ingrebourne valley and harrow lodge park and Dagenham chase - a busy day!

On Thursday I finally had a free day and the weather was good smile So I thought I'd head for part of the Ingrebourne river and the parks reserves it flow through: Ingrebourne Nature Reserve, Hornchurch Country Park and Berwick Woods.
