Here are the photos from last Wednesday. The snow was still thick, despite the sunny weather and the fact it hadn't snowed for a day or two. Walking through Rise Park, I noticed something moving in the ditch right next to me. There, flicking leaves like a blackbird, a metre away, was redwing! It moved of but I could get within about 3m of it with ease, by far the tamest redwing I've ever encountered.
Here are the photos from last Tuesday, just after I managed to back to romford, after being delayed for a day by the snow. The view from Blacks bridge was whiter than usual
Here is a video recorded at the same time as the photos in the cormorant post. The cormorant appears to be grubbing around the base of the old coot nest, which is sticking hogh out of the water because the water level has been dropped. You can just make out a small fish (or possibly a fry) in its beak at he end.
Some more photos from Raphaels Park in December 2008, but towards the end on the 28th. It was a busy sunny xmas holiday day so not too much to be seen, except for the pair of stock doves I sometimes see in the wooded area
Here are some well overdue photos I took way back on the 19th December ( in Raphaels and Bedfords Park. First up are those of the red deer. I tried a low(er) angled shot
Here is a slightly long (4 minute) video, where I put down some food and the camera on a log and pretty much just left the camera recording.
Look out for:
15 secs - close encounter and a call 19 secs - the sound of seeds being chomped by those teeth 30 secs - 'stumpy' tailed squirrel appears 1 min - a new arrival is 'escorted' from the restaurant 1 min + 20 secs - calling and tail wagging , which in squirrel means "keep away this is my food" 1 min + 36 secs - some feet stamping, probably similar meaning to the above 1 min + 52secs - helicopter comes in to ruin the sound recording 2 mins and 22 secs - rejoin footage to see the defending squirrel almost growling to ward off the competition 3 mins + 5 secs - a good sniff of the camera 3 mins + 10 secs - the sound of crows, and then passing train 3 mins + 30 secs - chasing off a rival 3 mins + 37 secs - the hungry observer on the tree 3 mins + 52 secs - the hungry 'observer' is chased off the log 4 mins + 3 secs - calling at rivals 4 mins + 12 ses - the video should have ended but the editing software is rubbish and I should have used my mac to do it
