Here are the photos from last Wednesday. The snow was still thick, despite the sunny weather and the fact it hadn't snowed for a day or two. Walking through Rise Park, I noticed something moving in the ditch right next to me. There, flicking leaves like a blackbird, a metre away, was redwing! It moved of but I could get within about 3m of it with ease, by far the tamest redwing I've ever encountered.

Nearly a month ago I took a mammal course at Wildwood Trust in Kent, which is where all the bones and skull photos come from. It had snowed that weekend, so as we walked around after the presentation I got some photos of the residents in the snow. The fallow deer seemed to be comfortable in the snow

While its hardly news that sika deer (see photo on the left) hybridise with
red deer (see photo on the right), with sika x red deer hybrids reported in Scotland since the 1950s (Whitehead,1964), but the paper (Senn and Pemberton, 2009) in the news today (
here on BBC news) reports that we risk loosing red deer altogether, at least in its pure bred form.

He is my first post on my visit to Bushy Park. Ill start with the obvious residents, the deer. Much like
Richmond Park the two species of deer present are fallow deer and red deer. About 10 minutes walking into Bushy park we noticed a herd of red deer which was being guarded by a stag.
