Bedfords park - insects

, , , , , , , , , , , , ,

On bank holiday Monday I headed up to Bedfords Park. That weekend there was a mass influx of painted lady butterflies, and I saw 8 on the walk in towards the lake

The was plenty of other insect life around. A female scorpionfly munched on a dead fly

I found some caterpillers eating barmble, and it turns out they are emperor moth caterpillers. I certainly look forward to seeing these once they have pupated

The damselflies were abundant. I caught these 2 pairs of large red damselflies egg laying

And this slender graoundhopper posed nicely on a log

Even when poked by a visiting ant!

Hello and welcome to the UK WILDLIFE BLOGStag beetle!

Interesting for me to see the emperor moth caterpillar

We seem to have missed out on the painted lady influx - I haven't seen any of them.
