And down at the lake, an emperor dragonfly was laying it's next generation.

I thought the male was usually still attached when the female was laying?

RobinL - although thats the case with most damselflies and some dragonflies, with hawkers + emperors the female is usual left to lay eggs on her own, sometimes with the male flying around guarding her while in his territory
