Bedfords Park: red deer, woodpecker and devils coach horse

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

In between my 2 visits to Raphaels Park on Saturday I went up to Bedfords Park. It was quiet, both in terms of people and wildlife, but in the deer pen one of the stags was dozing in the autumn sun

Another was awake when I arrived

Until it too dozed off!

At the bird feeders a blue tit was helping itself to some peanuts

I then wandered of into the woods to try out the macro lens on some inverts. I'm still struggling, especially with the really small stuff in shady woodlands, but I managed this one of a devils coach horse beetleThere is a flat backed millipede too, tucked under the middle leg.

Typically, as I wandered around with the 100mm macro lens on, the need arose for the 150-500mm: a woodpecker called and flew overhead. A quick lens change and a bit of patience and...I got an out of focus shot as it looked right at me! doh! Mind you I'll certainly settle for this shot

And finally on my way home a grey squirrel chased another into a patch of grass before it noticed me and went into full alert
