Birds in Richmond Park

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

There plenty of birds in Richmond Park other than those Ive posted about. In the first pond we came to a heron was standing where I had seen one eating frogs earlier this year.

Before being scared into a tree

There were also some goldfinches in that tree

In the Isabella Plantation the mandarin ducks in the collection were not feeling cooperative but I did get some nice photos of a pintail

And a shelduck

A moorhen nipped across in front of the reeds as well

Back out in the main park I had seen some stonechats about, and one area of bracken had a more cooperative pairThe male

And the female

And I got one bird I didn't expect and Ive found next to impossible to photograph: a treecreeperThis tiny bird feeds by flying to the bottom of a tree and climbing up the trunk looking for food. Its hard to photograph due to its habit of staying in the shade and never sitting still for long. I managed to grab this ok photo as it moved just far enough around the trunk to be in the sunlight

And I'll finish with perhaps the park most obvious (well definately noisiest) bird species, the ring necked parakeet

I'm deeply envious of the treecreeper. I've never been near able to get a shot of one of those, and that's a cracker. Great shots of the heron and I really like the parakeet on the stump.

Treecreepers are one of my very favourite species :D Yes, they do have a knack for avoiding the camera!

Great photos!

Wow, wonderful post. Great photos. They are all marvelous shots. Especially the first of the heron.

Great set of photos. Ringnecks are native to India aren't they? Have they established feral colonies here? They make excellent pets and some can talk. Common to see them in the pet trade. Usually see the yellow ringnecks.

LOve the treecreeper, and the shelduck is gorgeous
