Bushy Park: Mute Swans

, , , , , ,

More from Bushy Park, this time the swans. In the Waterhouse Pond there were a pair of mute swans, one of which had left the water and was wnadering around the bank. Now I had waited two years to get a photo of a swan flapping its wings but in the last few weeks I've taken 3 lots! But these of that swan are the best of them

It then decided to enter the frozen lake, smashing through the ice

It then grubbed around on the bottom near the shore, crunching through the ice as it went. I managed a close up of its head

Later it rejoined its partner

As we walked around later I spotted another pair sleeping in the Diana (no not that Diana) Fountain, and here is one of them

Hello and welcome to the UK WILDLIFE BLOGBushy Park Wildlife

Such beautiful birds. Excellent shots! I like the water droplets in the closeup.

Swans are the most beautiful birds i think. :D in March i must go to the wildfowl in Arundel to take pics of them with my new DSLR camera

That poor old swan looks like an Antarctic ice-breaker! At least it's warmed up a bit now. Great pictures. Jane

Very pretty - I like the second shot in particular

cakkleberry - thanks

Mark - I think the mandarin is more beautiful, but theres no denying swans are beautiful elegant birds - well until you get to close, as you found out at Arundel last time! I'll look forward to photos from your next visit.

Jane - yes I often think the swans (and geese) were acting like ice breakers when I watch them on frozen ponds. They break up the ice and the ducks start swimming up the 'channels' they leave behind

Robin - thanks, they certainly are

Words - cheers

Adele - thanks, these swan flapping wings shots are getting as common as my squirrel close ups! :D

I agree with you Ukwildlife . Maybe one reason why ballet dance link to a swan is because of the gracefulness , agree ?
Anyway , thanks for dropping by .

All the best
