Deer in Fal Harbour

, , , , , ,

There was interesting story in the Metro today of a deer trying to swim across Fal Harbour, Cornwall, UK.

(Original Metro article and photo from here. The article states it basked in the sun before attempting the swim and ended up returning back to the shore unharmed.

Im not sure, but I reckon its a roe deer, based on the fact its antlers are that well developed at this time of year. Of course deer swimming in the sea is not unheard of. Deer are strong swimmers and Sika deer move between Brownsea Island and the mainland across Poole harbour and there was the case of the fallow deer half a mile from (again) Cornish shores Cornish shores. Still its an intersting occurence and great photo!

Very interesting - especially to see him swimming amongst the large ships!
