Fox video

, , , ,

A while back I promised some video. An now I'm knee deep in revison and soon to be neck deep in something else, unless I get on with it, I thougtht I'd post some of my videos. You may remember the sleepy foxes sunbathing in the park. Well this is when I first saw one of them. I took this photo

And then filmed as it went to collect some stashed food. enjoy

Well filmed indeed! Caching has interested me much more since I read J David Henry's books on his fox research in Saskatchewan, and all his experiments to see why foxes are obsessive cachers. On one occasion, he found a fox who, having buried something, actually scuffed snow over its own tracks as it left to make sure that nothing clever would steal it! :eyes: British foxes mostly have to worry about other foxes, it seems to me...I wonder if the one in your video actually buried that food, or if it was stealing from someone else

hmm makes you wonder. This guy had has a good look around. But Ive only seen 2 foxes there so I guess its a pairs territory, this being one of them (I saw it there again - could tell from the mange patch). Oh the mange: it appeared to clear up over the year, or I spose it could have been ousted by a non mangy fox, but as you can see from the video it looks healthy and well fed other than the mange so doubt it would have lost a fight. hmmm I hope that makes sense!

Poor thing looks a bit mangey but doesn't seem to be bothering him much. Great video. Thanks for that.

@Lois - Youtube is a pain. Try pressing F5 to refresh the page and then it might work.

Excellent video Neil. He seemed quite comfortable with you around, or just plain greedy going for the cache! Glad to hear that he apparently recovered from the mange.
