Yesterday I went finished my project and why waiting for the rush hour to pass I popped into the garden, where I saw a femal holly blue butterfly warming itself in the sun so I ran and got my camera
On monday for a school visit we looked at the contents of barn owl pellets. For those who are unfamiliar with owl pellets, they are the undigestable bits (fur, bone etc.) that the owl coughs up after a meal. By breaking these up and looking at the contents you can find the bones of their prey, usually small mammals. Here are a few things that were found:
DId some more volunteering up at bedfords today and had my first visit with decent weather for a while. Unfortunately the swarms of dragonflies and damselflies had still failed to materalise and may not at all this year. On the upside I did get my first small red-eyed damselfly of the year
Yesterday I helped out with a school vivit and the meadow sweep was quite productive. Before we started, one of the kids had a nursery web spider in there nest. It was carrying it egg case around with its fangs:
Here are videos of deer from my early morning visit to Bedfords park. First up is the deer calf poking his nose into the tree. Im not sure what its doing, possibly drink the dew? If anyone has any idea please let me know
Yesterday I got up at 5am and head for Bedfords Park. I got up at this ridiculous hour to beat the dog walkers to the park (although I still ran into one!). I wanted to avoid them so the red deer calves would be less wary and nearer the fence. Well they were - and I took a 'few' photos:
