Raphaels park - cormorants, mallards and a confused pair of great crested grebes

On Mondays visit to Raphaels park my aim was to get some nice photos of grey squirrels and great crested grebes. But by the time the sun had risen high enough to hit the lake, the grebes had moved off to the back of the lake and the large number of dog walkers had scared the squirrels up the trees. I did however manage a few photos of some mallards in the morning sun

Cormorant feeding video

Here is a video recorded at the same time as the photos in the cormorant post. The cormorant appears to be grubbing around the base of the old coot nest, which is sticking hogh out of the water because the water level has been dropped. You can just make out a small fish (or possibly a fry) in its beak at he end.

Harrow Lodge Park

Here is there rest of my report from Monday. This a very photo heavy post, so give your browser a chance! After leaving the chase I crossed the road and entered Harrow Lodge Park. Heading towards the lake I saw a Jay and a greater spotted woodpecker on the same tree with a green woodpecker below! When I got to the lake there was a very cooperative Black headed gull stting on a pole

Eastbrookend Country Park and The Chase

Here is the first part of my report on my long walk yesterday. It started of walking down the bank of the River Rom. I had been walking for about 15 minutes and seen nothing but a few mallards, when I sawa crow on the path ahead. Then out of no where what I though was a thrush jumped on the crow and scaring it off. As the attacker flew of I realised it was a male sparrowhawk. A good start. The path after this is a muddy narrow one through a patch of woodlanmd bordering the river
