Here what I got up to Saturday before last. The weather was awful: cloudy and drizzly, so after lunch in Grove Ferry, the short walk involved a lot of sitting in the hide. We were rewarded with some pretty close views of a little egret hunting

Digiscoping birds

As promised yesterday, here are the results of the digiscoping at Oare marshes. We borrowed susan's dad's telescope (an Opticron ES 80 GA ED) and her sistes compact camera (a PANASONIC Lumix DMC-TZ3 I think) and tried it out in the garden and suprisingly photos started to come out. So we quickly popped down to Oare Marshes before the sunset. The light was not great as the sun disappeared behind cloud and it was late in the day, but the photos came out ok. Regents park - ducklings, grebes, geese and herons. Oh and coots

, , , ...

Today I visited Regents Park just to be different :wink: :D In fact I visited Monday as well as Rapheals Park, thought I appear to have misplaced those photos Homer: Doh! Anyway back to today, and greating me as I entered where the red crested pochard ducklings that I also saw on Monday. 3 of these sat nicely on bank while laid down on the gravel to take some photos. This area is often covered by the resident flock of pigeons (they were a couple of metres away today), so it was probably coated in mixture of poo, feathers and parasites. Was worth it though: :D

Wildwood trust

As promised last weekend here are the photos from my visit to wildwood. WARNING:THIS POST IS PHOTO HEAVY! First here is one of the American bullfrogs, which was out despite it not being that mildThere is population of these in Kent (and possibly elsewhere in the UK) They were brought over as pets, sold as giant tadpoles, and as they reach adulthood they then into big frogs which are often set free. Unfortunately they can breed sucessfully and will eat anything they can fit into there mouths - which includes native small mammals, amphibians, reptiles and bird chicks! Efforts have been to capture the bullfrogs with some success, but there have been reports of some still at large.
