Goldfinches at Rainham Marshes

Last Tuesday I headed to Rainham Marshes on a day off. I was meant to be heading to Chelmsford to see a Red throated diver (or loon) that had turned up in the park there, but it had left on the Monday (and was sadly later found dead), so I head to Rainham marshes instead. It was a bit disappointing to be honest, as the water level was very low, with many of the better marsh frog and little grebe areas completely dry. Here is a photo of a house sparrow having a dust bath in Wat Tyler Country Park. I took a couple of weeks back.

I saw many more animals that day but Im a bit behind with photo editing so I'll post about that later (or tommorow if I run out of time!)

Rainham RSPB

Spitting spider

Here is the second visitor to my house in the last week. On Monday my sister brought a spider she caught in her room to me and as soon as I saw it I knew what it was: a spitting spider, which is a new species for me :smile:. Not bad considering Im stuck inside! I tried some photos in the pot but only a few head on shots and one side shot came out - you just about make out the 3 pairs of eyes
