On Mondays visit to Raphaels park my aim was to get some nice photos of grey squirrels and great crested grebes. But by the time the sun had risen high enough to hit the lake, the grebes had moved off to the back of the lake and the large number of dog walkers had scared the squirrels up the trees. I did however manage a few photos of some mallards in the morning sun
Yesterday I headed to Raphaels Park a bit later than sunrise in the hope I would avoid the bulk of the dog walkers, which I had some success with. I wanted to avoid the dog walkers so the grey squirrels would be more cooperative and come close, so I could try out my new 100mm pentax macro lens
Here is some video I took a couple of years ago, one evening in Bedfords park, of a mallard mother looking after her brood and being very tolerant of a coot. The next day I saw a Havering council tractor plough right across this corner of the lake over this nest. Thankfully the family had moved away beforehand. Enjoy the video and look out for the ducklings tucking up under warm mum
The saturday before last I headed to Richmond Park for so Sue could try out some photography techniques she'd been reading about. I took a lot of photos as I always do when visiting this park, so Ive broken it down into more than one post. In this post I'll cover the ducks, starting with the pintails.
Last Thursday I headed to Hainault Forest Country Park to see if the frogs had emerged and begun spawning. My first stop was the lake were I spotted some pochards
The weekend before last I stole borrowed Sues Fz-18, so I could hopefully get some better photos than I manage with my Fz7. I took it with me last Wednesday to Bedfords Park, where i didn't really get to use the 18x zoom (500mm equivalent), except with this mallard on a log
Its been a while since I last posted, Ive been busy volunteering, with it being half term. But to start the catching up here are the photos from wednesday before last. The mallards are sensing spring is coming, with these to male 'bickering' over a female
Here are the photos from last Wednesday. The snow was still thick, despite the sunny weather and the fact it hadn't snowed for a day or two. Walking through Rise Park, I noticed something moving in the ditch right next to me. There, flicking leaves like a blackbird, a metre away, was redwing! It moved of but I could get within about 3m of it with ease, by far the tamest redwing I've ever encountered.
Im getting closer to being up to date. Here are the photos from my visit to Harrow lodge Park the week before last. Walking along the river bank there were a number of robins
