In between my 2 visits to Raphaels Park on Saturday I went up to Bedfords Park. It was quiet, both in terms of people and wildlife, but in the deer pen one of the stags was dozing in the autumn sun

Raphaels park - cormorants, mallards and a confused pair of great crested grebes

, , , ...

On Mondays visit to Raphaels park my aim was to get some nice photos of grey squirrels and great crested grebes. But by the time the sun had risen high enough to hit the lake, the grebes had moved off to the back of the lake and the large number of dog walkers had scared the squirrels up the trees. Carrying on with my photos from my visit to Richmond Park with Daniel Bridge (see his blog in the side bar), the main reason for visiting was the red deer rut. Although I saw very little actual rutting, the stags were certainly displaying rut behaviour. One thing I noticed lots of them doing on the day was licking their lips as they approached the hinds (females), as the first stag I came across was doing

Birds in Richmond Park

There plenty of birds in Richmond Park other than those Ive posted about. In the first pond we came to a heron was standing where I had seen one eating frogs earlier this year.
