On the last day of our holiday we head to marloe sands for a walk and then some rockpooling. On our walk we spotted many small birds including a meadow pipit

While rockpooling (and before) we came across a few dead creatures on the shoreline at Broad Haven and Little Haven. While waiting for the tide to go down we found a by-the-wind-sailor (Velella sp.)

Well I've finish my photos taken on Skomer, and this post is what we saw after we left the island that day. Leaving the island on the boat we got lucky and saw a small pod of common dolphins 
I was told later by a member of staff at lockley lodge, that this a rare sight from the skomer ferry, and she had never seen dolphins from the boat!

While having our lunch on Skomer Head we noticed some large white birds which turned out, as suspected, to be Gannets

With all the sea birds and owls on skomer its easy to miss the small birds. One of the first birds we saw up on the top of the cliffs were some meadow pipits calling away

I saw 4 species of gull while on Skomer. The first species we had a good view of was the lesser black backed gull. A pair were courting each other not far from the path soon after we started walking along the cliff

Here are my final batch of puffin photos. These were taken later than the others, when the clouds had returned and the sun no where to be seen (until, of course, the moment we got back to the mainland!) First up, floating on the water near the dock

Sorry for the break in posting, Ive been busy working, in Kent at the weekend and driving around generally: I passed my driving test which makes sooooo many more reserves accessible to me! Oh and it might help my job prospects or something......

Short eared owl on Skomer

One of the main attactions to Skomer, other than the coastal birds, are the Short eared owls, Asio flammeus.
