Skylarks at Reculver and whimbrels at Seasalter

Last Sunday went to Reculver in search of waders. Unfortunately the beach was nearly covered by the tide when I got there, and being Sunday morning the area was swarming with dogs and their walkers. I held out little hope of seeing anything but gulls, but went for a nice walk anyway. On top of the cliff is Reculver country park, which is a long thin park with a path running along the cliff and another along the border and a 10m or so band of long grass between the two. Amazingly, despite the constant stream of dogs on both paths, the long grass held 2 or 3 skylarks

Photographing turnstones (and other waders)

When it comes to photographing waders, it can be a challenge to get close enough to them to get a reasonable photo. But turnstones are quite approachable, at least for waders, and on some beaches you can get within a few metres (and sometimes closer) with out them showing any signs of distress.
