red deer stag in full swing!

Here are a couple of videos from Bed fords Park on Friday. The big stag has already staked his claim over the females and was even chasing them away from the fence whwn the schoool trip was trying to feed them! Here he his calling out to the males in the next field:


And here he is patrolling him females, with his head held high, letting the other males know who is in charge

On Wednesday I popped up to Bedfords Park. I have photos to show later, but hear are a couple of videos first.

First up is a nice reminder of spring, and a reminder this years calves still have some growing to do

Richmond Park deer

I got quite a few photos of the deer in Richmond Park so I thought I'd write a bit about them to go with my photos. The park was created by Charles I in 1637, when he enclosed the area that is now the park as a deer deer hunting ground. There are 650 deer in the park, 300 of which are red deer (I blogged about them here), which is the first species I encountered on saturday.

Bedfords park - dragonflies, grasshoppers and small red eyed damselflies

DId some more volunteering up at bedfords today and had my first visit with decent weather for a while. Unfortunately the swarms of dragonflies and damselflies had still failed to materalise and may not at all this year. On the upside I did get my first small red-eyed damselfly of the year
