Bedfords park - dragonflies, grasshoppers and small red eyed damselflies

DId some more volunteering up at bedfords today and had my first visit with decent weather for a while. Unfortunately the swarms of dragonflies and damselflies had still failed to materalise and may not at all this year. On the upside I did get my first small red-eyed damselfly of the year

Darland Banks and riverside country park

, , , ...

Today on the way home I took a couple of large diversions. First up was Darland banks, a chalkhill nature reserve run by Kent Wildlife Trust. Entering the reserve I noticed a colourful 'fly' and knew instantly what it was since I've wanted to photograph one since I got my camera: a ruby-tailed wasp (Chrysis ignita), and type of jewel wasp.

Early spring butterflies, in the UK

In the warm days we’ve had this year you may have noticed butterflies flying around.
