Here what I got up to Saturday before last. The weather was awful: cloudy and drizzly, so after lunch in Grove Ferry, the short walk involved a lot of sitting in the hide. We were rewarded with some pretty close views of a little egret hunting

Stodmarsh NNR

On Sunday I visited Stodmarsh NNR. Soon after we started walking I heard the call of a turtle dove. We walk around trying to see it and there at the top of a tall tree we saw it! At one point I was standing below it and even managed to photograph it, albeit poorly:

Stomarsh wildlife

Yesterday I visited Stodmarsh, near Canterbury in Kent. This reserve is a great place for birds, especially marsh harriers and hobbys. But I was in search of the reported hairy dragonflys. Entering the reserve it was already very hot and the insects were flying around. I did see a couple of hairy dragonflys but only brief glimpses as they wizzed past. I did however see lots of other Odonata (the insect order of dragonflys and damselflys). First up was this terenal (recently emerged) probable variable blue damselfly
