Otter and Owl Sanctuary birds

, , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Here are the first batch of photos from the visit to the Otter and Owl Sanctuary in the New Forest. They have a number of bird feeders (less than last time though) and the first bird of note was a nuthatch

I also spotted a few coal tits, including this one (on the right) on the feeder with a blue tit

There were a number of owls, as you would imagine, but the postion and wiring of the cages makes it hard to photograph them. I did manage a nice snowy owl photo

And back at the feeders I got a photo of a blue tit clinging to a wall

And a nice chaffinch

Such pretty little birds, and I think the Snowy Owl is such a beautiful bird.

Great shot of the chaffinch!

Lovely shots! I don't think I've ever seen one of the larger owls in the daytime. Is this natural for them?

Lovely to see the birds at the Otter & Owl sanctuary. Where were the otters? Some friends sponsored an otter for us as a wedding present. I've never managed to get there to see them - even though I adore otters.

Thought you might like to know about the Live Kestrel Nestbox camera that I've just set up on the Dorset Wildlife Trust website (more info on my blog at http://urbanextension.wordpress.com). If you can pass the link along to any friends, that would be great. The more people watching it the better. Hoping to see the first eggs laid soon, the male has already made a scrape for the female and is bringing her lots of mice/voles.

Thanks. Jane
