Raphaels park - cormorants, mallards and a confused pair of great crested grebes

, , , , , , , , , ,

On Mondays visit to Raphaels park my aim was to get some nice photos of grey squirrels and great crested grebes. But by the time the sun had risen high enough to hit the lake, the grebes had moved off to the back of the lake and the large number of dog walkers had scared the squirrels up the trees. I did however manage a few photos of some mallards in the morning sun

I also noticed the cormorants have returned for the winter

And a mistle thrush up in a tree

And finally the great crested grebes were sitting in the shade towards the back of the lake when they started exhibiting courting behaviour

One even reaching the weed stage.
Im not sure if this is unusual at this time of year or not, it seems early to me?

Nice shot the cormorant. Can't say I've ever noticed how green their eyes are.
