Shaggy Ink Caps and a lazy squirrel

, , , , , , , , , , , ,

Tuesday before last, after going to Rainham Marshes, I stopped off at Hornchurch Country Park to explore the Ingrebourne Valley. Unfortunately it was as dead as Rainham, the marsh there had almost dried up. But up in a field I came across more than 50 shaggy ink cap toadstools: some just emerging

Some reaching full grown

And some passing over, showing the 'shaggyness'
Shaggy ink caps are a come species in fields, especially those that have been disturbed by man.

The only other thing of note was this lazy squirrel basking in the sun

Goldcrest - britains smallest bird at HanningfieldRaphaels park - cormorants, mallards and a confused pair of great crested grebes

Never seen mushrooms like that. Are they poisonous?

Young Shaggy Ink caps (before they go black) are actually edible - very nice sauteed with a bit of butter....
