Hi it`s Kirk,

I keep seeing very small but beautifully blue butterflys in my garden & was wondering which type they were. I live on the Sussex downland, by Holt farm and wondered if they could be chalkhill blues. Are they also called common blues or am I confusing two types of buterfly?

Great shots - great blog.

If there small (ie about 3cm long) they are probaly holly blues. There are many of them about at the moment. There are 2 photos of one on this post (the 13th and 14th photo down) rainham marshes

Thanks for making my mind up - I was starting to think the same; that they were Holly Blues. I have been counting the variety of birdlife in the garden and find we have 10 regular types and a few less common.

Neil, Great photos! I see it might be possible to use some of them under a CC licence? Could you let me know more? Thanks!
