wildwood - first sighting of the European beavers

, , , , , , , , , , , ,

I went to wildwood on Friday, but it was raining the whole time so not many photos came out. I did managed these of the green lizard under the heat lamp in the hut enclosure

This European pond terrapin was braving the rain, although being amphibious, the water probably didnt bother it that much!

In the avairy the spoonbill eventually turned round and posed

The night heron was walking around the higher part of the enclosure

and there are a couple of little egret nests

The male roe was at the back of its enclosure as usual

In front of that enclosure a grey squirrel was demolishing a pine cone!

But best thing of the day was the beavers, which were active for the first time when we were there.
This photos not as good but shows there flat paddle like tail well

The beavers may have been encouraged to be out, as there was a film crew and a possibly countryfile presenter Adam Henson. What do you think

A couple of ther things I'll,add on to this post from Susans garen over the weekend. First up the family of starlings (+ sparrow)
A juvenile on its own

And lastly a slowworm juvenile found on the veg-plot

pond dipping - Common darter dragonfly nymph and great diving beetle larvaRapheal Park
