Exploring the fauna of Britain

Rapheal Park

, , , , , , ,

Yesterday I ahd a quick walk through Rapheals park on my way to uni. The coots are still breeding and there was a fairly young brood up the narrow end of the lake

I also spotted this heron sunbathing on the larger Island

and my first sighting of an egyptian goose in this park (and on this side of London)

The great crested grebe family is doing well, but the Swan pair could be seen with no cygnets in sight - I have a horrible feeling that they may have been killed by one of the many leadless dogs that pass through the park :frown:

wildwood - first sighting of the European beaversRegents Park

What interesting birds!! Especially like the vrood - we don't have anything like that here - very unusual looking!

Woops. that was a typo! it was meant to read 'broods' rather than vroods lol. Just to clear things up its a coot chick. If you're wondering what a coot is go here: http://flickr.com/photos/ukwildlife/sets/72157603930038007/
