Darland Banks and riverside country park

there wasn't a lot around (compared to last year) and my best herping spots seemed to have been removed. I did however find this common blue butterfly

There were a number of meadow browns and also some marbled whites, a chalk meadow speciality

As I was leaving I noticed I still had an hour to kill so I started the long walk to Riverside country park. There in one of the bushes overhanging the path was a whitethroat singing

My search for reptiles was again proving fruitless, but I did get my first cinnebar moth of the year

and then I finally found some reptiles, evn if they were only slow worms

Later on the path was this small moth, I'll try get an ID

And I found something Words (I think) mentioned finding earlier, a robins pincusion gall, caused by the larvae of tiny gall wasp, which manipulate the plant into growing these protective galls, which I think they also feed on, from the inside. SO an ok way to finish a long weekend
I have a report from bedfords and possibly regents to come soon
