furtehr along a female ruddy duck was diving for food

And then a grey heron flew over

I then met up with Tony the wildlife officer and he showed me the nursery where they raise the ducks, a Necessary measure since the foxes started swimming across to the breeding islands and last there were no successful broods. Here are some ducklings in a nursery pen, I believe he said they were red beaked pintails alought I can't remember!

We then entered one of the nature areas closed to the public where I noticed a female emperor dragonfly being mobbed by damselflies as it was egg laying

it then moved on a bit before continuing

This area had a number of skippers including this large skipper

and this small skipper

This common darter was perched on a reed

After this I headed out the park along the lake where I encountered a pair of bar-headed geese with two ducklings, one half of the family here

In the normal heron roosting area I spotted this heron with its head feathers erect

and this juvenile standing on the new fence

This robin had a good look at me on a tree on the way out

And from the bridge I could see a male emperor dragonfly patroling its territory and this moorhen searching for food in the duckweed
