Exploring the fauna of Britain

Birdworld

, , , , , , , , ,

On sturday I visit birdworld. Its a zoo of mainly birds (as you probably guessed!) and along with many foriegn species, it also had a few that are found in the wild in the UK. So as this is the UK wildlife blog I figured I better keep to just them

first up is this beautiful tawny owl

They had a heron/wader/waterfowl enclosure in which I saw my first shag, but it was asleep so the photos wern't very good. I did photograph this avocet

and this shelduck though

Outs ide was a small waterfowl pond with a smew

and a wood duck going into eclipse

There were a number of wildbirds around including jackdaws

and the trees nearby contain a heronry, and herosn could be seen scattered across and flying over birdworld. SOme were even doinf cattle egret impressions :D

Thanks everyone. I liked the owl best from the day too - kind of ironic that in a place with 100s of fantastic and colourful birds from across the world (although there not shown here!), the humble tawny owl photo ended up as the nicest photo
