Exploring the fauna of Britain

Stodmarsh NNR

, , , ,

On Sunday I visited Stodmarsh NNR. Soon after we started walking I heard the call of a turtle dove. We walk around trying to see it and there at the top of a tall tree we saw it! At one point I was standing below it and even managed to photograph it, albeit poorly:

Also in the SAME tree was a wood pigeon and this stock dove

Nearby there was family of swans, possibly the same pair I saw last year in the same area

We then walked along the path by the lake. There were insects abound, including the oranage soldier or bonking beetles and this lovely Strangalia maculata long horn beetle

In the hide we could see some distant herons and cormorants and this flock of greylag geese

On the handle for the steps down from the hide I noticed this bee

I also managed to photograph 2 butterfly species. This meadow brown

and a of white butterfly
