Tame squirrels and macro fun

, , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Yesterday I headed to Raphaels Park a bit later than sunrise in the hope I would avoid the bulk of the dog walkers, which I had some success with. I wanted to avoid the dog walkers so the grey squirrels would be more cooperative and come close, so I could try out my new 100mm pentax macro lens

I had some success

The lens is pretty good for 'non-close ups' too

I still had the sigma 150-500 with me and used it for this mallardIm still after good shots of the grebes and cormorants.

Afterwards I wandered up to Bedfords Park where I found my latest ever dragonfly (by one day later than last year). It was a common darter

I had put my macro lens back on for these shots and couldn't resist a close up of the compound eyes. This is cropped a fair bit but you can see the individual lenses that make up the compound eyes.

And finally I stumbled across this harvestman in the woodland, so I used the flash and got this
Im still working out how to get the best out of my new toy and I can't wait to see what it can do

Excellent shots. I love using the macro lens on slightly larger subjects. Sharp as a razor. You've caught the darter really well. Enjoy the new toy (I know you will).

Thanks everyone - expect to see more insects and small animals than in the last few months!
