Exploring the fauna of Britain

Tuckenhay, Devon wildlife (and some from Brixham)

Well had a great time at the zoo, taking my 30,000th photo with my camera! Anyway today I thought I'd run through the wildlife near the cottage I'm staying at. First up what I saw yesterday:
A pair of mute swans a raising a couple of cygnets

There not the only family though, as I spotted further up in the none tidal part of the river a couple of grey wagtail fledglings, here is one of them

They were calling out, and sure enough a parent turned up with a beak full of food

before stopping for a rest

Also near the cottage is a fledging family of blackbirds, as indicated by this fella (and its siblings)

I also spotted buzzard (and possibly another)

Today (Sunday) after the zoo we paid a quick visit to Brixham Marina, where many fish and crabs could be seen by the marina wall, but were a pain to photograph, like most things underwater

Back in Tuckenhay, I managed a photo of the resident (as far as Im aware - I've seen them both days I've been here anyway!) Egyptian geese, a species Im more than with from Regents Park.

Wildlife wise I've also spotted a little egret, nesting house martins and swallows and overflying swifts so far.

Today I also tried some more scenic shots. Here is shot of the River Harbourne estuary

A view of the Bow Creek Estuary

This shot of some trees on the hill between bow creek and the River Harbourne

And I decided in the low light (and with the inevitable low shuter speeds) to try a low shutter speed shot of flowing water - not bad for a first attempt

Off to the Eden Project tommorow probably, so expect something to do with that - or maybe some zoo photos. Also my 30,000th photo!

Lovely to see the grey wagtails. We don't see to much of them round our parts. The shot of the water works really well  30,000 photos... not bad, not bad

Beautiful animals photos and scenic shots, especially the picture of the River Harbourne and that one with flowing water too. They are so different, but each one has it's own charm.

Great pictures. Especially liked the slow shutter speed water at the end. Love the little grey wagtail as well. I've seen more of these this year. Great to see some fledglings. It's a beautiful part of the country. Jane
