Wicken fen - birds, dragonflies and butterfly

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The first thing that I noticed in Wicken Fen was the tame house sparrows at the cafe

There were a number of dragonflies about including four spotted chasers

And hairy hawkers, one of which I managed to just about photograph

There were lots of damselflies including my first red eyed damselflies of 2009

and variable damselflies

I also spotted a number of brimstone butterflies

And Konicks were being used to graze certain areas

I did manage a record shot of my first ever hen harrierThere wasn't a member of the royal family or a gamekeeper taking pot shots at it thankfully

In the first bird hide I sawa greenfinch

And some young coots

And last but not least, I had some views of a kingfisher hunting

In other news my first dslr is on the way. Should arrive Monday

Nice set of pictures. Must be nice to live your life and do what you do. I envy you.

You done a great job with those dragons and damsels, esp that four spotted chaser. The Brimstone is a great pic (I've been trying for ages to get a good pic of one), and good to see a house sparrow too.

Harrier! :hat:

Brimstones are so ridiculously well camoflagued when they're not on the wing :insane:

Woah! A hen harrier. Very nice indeed  Plus the kingfishers. The damsels are satill a bit quiet around my way. You've got an excellent variety where you are.
