Wildlife in Langstone harbour and Southsea seafront

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

A month ago I was in Portsmouth, so went on a walk looking for wildlife with my friend Richard. At the southern end of Langstone Harbour we came across a group of birds, which included a flock of redshanks

A brent goose

Some turnstones

And a black headed gull that was stalking the redshanks

At southsea seafront there were the usual herring gulls

But there was also a greater black backed gull, which as the biggest gull species in the world, towered over the herring gulls

Hello and welcome to the UK WILDLIFE BLOGPond dipping at the wick country park

Great shots. I love going to the sea side. There's always so much life.
I'm sadly remiss in the shore bird department. Haven't had much luck (yet)

Have never seen a blackheaded gull except in pictures. Didn't realize they are so huge. Nice photos.
