My Wish-List
Monday, 30. November 2009, 09:28:34
Fairly sure that "grouped" wish-lists aren't really preferred, especially ones of this length, but it is a "Wish List" not Single Feature Request, so if this gets Locked, so be it. I'll try and search for related/duplicate ones and add my "+1's" to them.
I'm intentionally excluding requests like "support for this, that, and the other" and also "faster this, that, and the other" requests, as those are pretty much a given, for the most part it's just usability requests, tried to list them in easiest to hardest to implement.
Opera:
● 1) Minimize and/or Close to Systray. (Related Topic and Another)
● 2A) Clean-Up On Interval, same as on shutdown, but happens when the browser is still open, every 1, 6, 12, 24 hours etc, deletes what it can (ie: not stuff for open pages)
● 2B) Clean-Up On Tab Close, delete all data used by tab since it was created. (Optional, or Per-Site basis, as it could cause slowdown)
● 3) Customizable UserAgent Strings (excluding the main Opera one)
● 4) A "Packaged" export/import settings option, where you can specify which items/data you want to export, then it creates a zipped file, same on import, shows a dialog so you can import all, or only the ones you select.
● 5) A Plugin "Manager", to add/remove plugins and paths (I know that's possibly in opera:config), or at least a Plugin Blacklist.
● 6A) Convert (non-necessary) Hex values to plain text (on 'Enter' or 'Go') in address bar, ie: %31 = 1, %41 = A, etc.
● 6B) Allow unicode text in the address bar, for instance Russian chars, become ????? unless you use Hex values.
● 7) A Link/Button to "opera:config" from the Preferences (Dialog) - Advanced, newer users will never find it the "hard way".
● 8) "Menu Editor", simple drag&drop, one list being current items, the other being all items, with an "Add" and an "Edit" which would be (easier to make if it was) more advanced, ie: manually type in commands, but a drop down list of commands would be great too.
● 9) Ability to edit keystroke/inputs that use Keyboard+Mouse, ie: Ctrl+Mouse Wheel
● 10) A "Speed Dials" Menu Item (similar to Internal Feeds List) thats the first item in the "Bookmarks" menu, or a Drop-Down button like Top 10.
● 11) "Warn On Exit", especially since there is M2 and Unite, which you may forget about, but want on permanently.
● 12) Opera.exe /systray options, to start Opera with Systray Icon only, no main Window.
● 13) Find & Replace, at least for Source Viewer, or if it can somehow search only input boxes (ie: the "Reply" box here)... does it already exist somewhere? (Related Topic and Another)
● 14) "Fullscreen" with modes, possibly an option on Appearance - Toolbars "Show in Fullscreen", and/or Auto-Hide toolbars in fullscreen, ie: Fullscreen
● 15) A "Delete Item" for Addressbar Drop-Down items, Shift+Del, Ctrl+Del, something... or a context menu, for Delete, Bookmark, Open with, Find in History, etc. (Related Topic)
● 16) "Copy HTML" in right-click context menu. (Related Topic)
● 17) "Lock Tab" with options, ie: "Lock Navigation", "Warn On Exit" (similar to if a download is in progress), possibly a "Stop Execution", so when a tab is locked, no scripts are allowed to run, and/or no user input is allowed. (Related Topic)
● 18A) Visual/Editable Session loading, for instance a "Speed Dial" of sorts when you open a session, that shows a thumbnail of the sites, then you can [X] close them, and an "Open Session" button at the bottom. (Related Topic)
● 18B) Just a button in the "Manage Sessions" dialog, for "Edit" that shows a list of sites in the session, then Add/Remove buttons.
● 19) Scrollable tabs, a button on each end (or top/bottom) click to scroll one tab over, click and hold (or Shift+Click) to scroll the next X (however many the tab bar fits) amount of tabs.
● 20) Skinnable Titlebar, or a "No Titlebar" option (like fullscreen, but with all the normal controls still) like this. (Related Topic)
UI Buttons:
● 1) Hide Opera
● 2) Minimize, Maximize/Restore, Close (I mean really, why aren't they there?)
● 3) Open/Close DragonFly
● 4) Previous Tab & Next Tab
● 5) Duplicate Tab (or just make Shift+Enter in the addressbar work when it's the same URL)
● 6) Show Site Security/Information
● 7) "Pop-Ups" mode button, (Show All, Background, Block Unwanted, Block All)
● 8) Site Navigation

● 1) "Custom Color" for Skin Color Scheme in the Skin dialog.
● 2) Skin Information (Version, Author, etc from [Info] in Skin.ini)
● 3) "Update Skin" in Skin dialog, either by information from [Info] in Skin.ini, or Opera remembering skin URLs when downloaded.
Buttons:
● 1) Scrollable "My Buttons" area.
● 2) Command Previews On Hover (for "My Buttons") in Status Bar, or it's own preview area.
● 3) "Create Button" for My Buttons (generic: select Icon, type in command, possibly with drop-down list like Keystroke editor)
Content Blocker: (Related Topic)
● 1) A more advanced content blocker, block elements, block scripts by name/id, or even the ability to block certain functions in JavaScript, etc.
● 2) "Block Item" in the main Right-Click context menu, instead of having to enter "Block Content" mode.
● 3) Support for ? (single character) and # (single digit) wildcards. (ie: http://*/ads#/* or http://www.???.site.com)
UI Buttons:
● 1) Enable/Disable Content Blocker
● 2) (Show) Blocked Content
● 3) Enter/Exit Content Block Mode

Panels:
● 1) A Global "Empty Trash", to empty all "Trash" bins for all panels.
● 2) An Option to do that on exit in Preferences - Advanced - History.
Contacts:
● 1) Either a panel like "Notes" where you can select a contact, then information about that contact appears in the sub-panel, or an expandable tree, showing common sub-items for the contact (Address(es), Homepage, Notes, etc) Mainly for easy access, ie: copy/paste information (I know it shows the info in the tooltips already)
Links:
● 1) Some form of organization. ie: Grouping by "Internal (same domain)/External (another domain)", what type it is ("Webpage", "File"), or possibly by container/div.
Mail & Feeds:
● 1) Folders to group Feeds (Related Topic and Another)
● 2A) "Check Feeds" in the right-click context menu inside Mail Panel (same as selecting "Feeds" and pressing F5) or A checkable option under the "Check/Send" button to include/exclude Feeds or the ability to tie feeds to an e-mail account, so that it updates when it automatically checks the mail account, on top of, or instead of the specified interval for the individual feeds.
● 2B) A Global variable for Update Interval on feeds, ie: "Apply To All".

Opera:* Pages:

● 2) "opera:cache" with some form of figuring out what files are what, like a Type column. (Related Topic)
● 3) "opera:plugins" shows version information.
● 4) "opera:config" with tooltip descriptions.
UI Buttons:
About
Cache
Config
Debug
History
History Search
Plugins
Site Preferences: (Dialog)
● 1) "Zoom" under "Content" or "Display" tab. (Related Topic and Indirectly Related Topic)
● 2) Selectable UserJS, ie: "select Folder" but then a listbox of found scripts with Enable/Disable options.
● 3A) Multiple Cache Folders, ie: specify which cache of X amount (perhaps only 2) of cache's, so one cache can be "cleaned" the other not, or one "public" one "private". (Partially Related Topic)
● 3B) Or the ability to enable/disable (include/exclude from) "Delete Data/Clear History" on a per-site basis.
Source Viewer:
● 1) Line Numbering (preferably with Column too, but not as necessary) (Related Topic)
● 2) "Find in Page" should be on the toolbar by default (and should work properly)
● 3) It's own Context Menu (especially since most are disabled/invalid with the default one)
● 4) Basic color scheme for commands/variables/etc. ie: <a href="url">Title</a>
Speed Dial:
● 1) A "Rows" and "Columns" numeric up/down so users can specify the amount of dials. (Related Topic)
● 2A) "Random" images for background, ie: Specify folder of images, then specify interval between changes, possibly with a "Base Time", ie: 12:00 then each interval after that time, so users could specify 24 hours, then specify 5:00PM, or specify every hour, based on 00:30 minutes, so it changes every hour but on the half-hours. (Related Topic)
● 2B) And/or the ability to specify a webpage as the background, with an update interval much like "Active Desktop" but perhaps without the ability to "use" the site.
● 3) "Set" (one time, browse for file) or "specify" (input box to URL) for Speed Dials Image (in context menu, or "Edit" dialog) to replace the default image of the website.
● 4) Drag&Drop floating Dials, so they can be arranged in a custom layout, like desktop icons. Or a "Grid" setting, like a grid of 5x5, but with only 9 Speed Dials, so you can drag&drop like you can already, but with completely "blank" dial spaces. (possible with some skins, or manually editing a skin).
● 5) Multiple webpages/sites per dial, with a "Previous" and "Next" button on either side. For instance grouping sub-pages of a domain, limited to say 3 pages/sites (easier to make, control and update), optionally an "Auto-Cycle" to display the different sites on an interval, or on mouse-over. (Semi-Related Topic)
● 6) "Pages" of Speed Dials, instead of squishing them all onto the same one. Specify an amount per-page (like a search engine) then if there is more dials than that, it creates another "page", then either Previous/Next page buttons, or maybe a scroll, like Mouse Gestures, hold left-mouse in empty area, move left/right.
UI Buttons:
● 1) Show/Hide Speed Dial
System Tray:
● 1) "Show/Hide" Opera on double-click Systray Icon, ie: double-click = "Show", double-click again = "Hide" (if windows visible).
● 2) Selective "Show/Hide", ie: a sub-menu with a list of the (parent) windows currently open, if window visible, clicking it hides it, if not, clicking it shows that window only, not all windows.
Unite: (Related Topic)
● 1) Application Version, Author, and Description info in "Properties" dialog, or an "Information" dialog.
● 2) Some form of "Update Application" (guess that would also require some coding on opera.com)
● 3) "Disable Unite" in the pop-up context menu, instead of Configure - Disable
UI Buttons:
● 1) Enable/Disable Unite
Widgets: (Related Topic)
● 1) Some form of Widget Manager inside Opera.
● 2) Install them to Opera/Widgets on the Start Menu (haven't tested external widgets with Linux yet)
● 3) The ability to open Widgets in their own Tab.
● 4) A tab similar to Speed Dial, that can hold multiple widgets.
● 5A) The ability to "Dock" a widget into the Tab/Page bar (when Visual Tabs enabled)
● 5B) Dock/Create a widget in it's own Panel
If Widgets remain completely external to Opera, then:
● 1) A Widget manager that runs in the systray, and shows a list of running widgets and/or all installed widgets, with the ability to start/show/close the widgets. (and thus, don't show running widgets in Taskbar unless specified to)
● 2) If there is no Widget Manager, then a systray icon for each widget that simply has "Show/Hide" and "Close" menu items, optionally the "Always On Top", and "Transparency" or Configure/Settings if the Widget has that option.
Apologies if some of the buttons don't work.
Bug Fixes:
● 1) Opera still loads the last closed tab when it re-opens sometimes.
● 2) Source Viewer "Scroll Up" rendering (jerky behavior unlike Scroll Down)
● 3) Mail Checking: (this might be fixable on my end) When Opera is minimized to taskbar, or to Systray, and it's unable to "Authenticate" or another Mail related error occurs, I do not want it to open the entire window, or even show the dialog until I open the main window again (major annoyance in fullscreen applications, or when doing any serious work in another application), but I do not want to disable the dialog from showing.
I'm intentionally excluding requests like "support for this, that, and the other" and also "faster this, that, and the other" requests, as those are pretty much a given, for the most part it's just usability requests, tried to list them in easiest to hardest to implement.
