What do you think about music?
I think it's the power impossible to overestimate - it can move people quicker than the picture, the word, the idea. Well, at least some people and I'm certainly one of them. That's why I love film scores - especially the ones written by Yoko Kanno, who's my favourite composer in general (followed by amazing Danny Elfman).
Well, among the film scores I love the most, I can mention 'The Rock', 'Transformers', 'Finding Neverland', 'Le pacte des loups', 'Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World', 'Gladiator' and two Polish scores - 'Wiedźmin' and 'Bandyta'. Whoah, those scores are absolutely amazing!
Then, I have to mention games - I really like some game scores, recently I'm listening to 'Age of Conan' and I find it brilliant. Music is wondeful and I think I could swap my writing and drawing skills for the ability of writing music. I really admire people who can create something manipulating me in a way music does.
Because it does.
Anyways, on Saturday I went to Krakow, to see the orchestra and choir performing Howard Shore's 'The Two Towers' score. I lack vocabulary to express the beauty of one of my favourite masterpieces - it was so... amazing. Wonderful. Gorgeous. Definitely, one of the best experiences in my whole life.
Perfect. Just perfect.
Ach jej
Jedynym minusem koncertu była organizacja. I nie chodzi mi o magiczne dwie godziny stania w kolejkach, a o coś bardziej przyziemnego:
No, organizacja była żałosna. Ale, mimo wszystko, było warto. Za rok będę tam na pewno.
Z kocem. I gorącą herbatą.
I może pampersem

Jedynym minusem koncertu była organizacja. I nie chodzi mi o magiczne dwie godziny stania w kolejkach, a o coś bardziej przyziemnego:
- nie porozstawiano barierek, by ludzie mogli stanąć i stworzyć kolejkę, dzięki temu przed wejściem stała zwarta grupa dzikiego tłumu
No, organizacja była żałosna. Ale, mimo wszystko, było warto. Za rok będę tam na pewno.
Z kocem. I gorącą herbatą.

I will need to procure this Age of Conan. Personally, I'm somewhat infatuated with the Red Alert 3 OST at the moment - wonderfully campy, yet maintains high production values. A fearsome combination.

have you played the World of Goo? A lovely game and nice, cute music

I haven't. I will. At some point. In the future.
Btw te captcha dla anonimów do wpisania są bardzo inspirujące na swój dziwny sposób. Poprzednio miałem "Marley clanked". Teraz jest "Jello wreaths".

also, live music rules.
glad you had a perfect experience.

Do you like music?
Anonymous # 25. May 2009, 20:03
Hogwash. Visual media can be every bit as evocative as music. While music tends to be on the abstract side, pictures usually represent concrete ideas. That's the norm, but that doesn't necessarily mean you can't have a piece of music on a concrete subject (like, say, a love song, or an ode) or a picture that is open to interpretation.
Mona # 25. May 2009, 20:07
But you already know that
Anonymous # 25. May 2009, 20:19
I'm not sure I know what you mean by prone, but I was just arguing visual media is in no way inferior. I'm not disputing the merits of music at all.

last night i watched, the new "la vie en rose" and felt real love and compassion for edith piaf, her sparrowness enlarged to eagle proportions because of her great gift (her voice).
the compassion i felt for her was automatic. it came from seeing how she couldn't handle it, her fame etc., and yet kept on performing. as if she owed it to someone... something.
the actress, marion cotillard did a marvelous job portraying pilaf.

Well, last night I watched 'The Sixth Sense', despite knowing the point as my dear husband told me the story... but I really enjoyed it. Have you seen it? It's pretty good and the 'I see dead people' moment sends shivers down the spine. Eeeek
scott cumming # 27. May 2009, 23:42
the sixth sense? i keep passing on it. life is scary enough as it is.

@ArtMan: I actaully wrote a nice, long response here, but then thought better of it - I'd scarcely want a flamewar on Mona's blog. Though I'll refrain from addressing specifics, there is something about your broad assertions and gross hyperbole that irks me greatly, driving me to oppose anything you say by sheer reflex.
@Mona: The Age of Conan OST is indeed good.

when someone rubs me the wrong way, i investigate. no doubt some fault of mine is rearing its ugly head.
to spare the gentle readers, i invite you to say what you will privately. did you actually write such a nice long response? i would so love to see it.
Anonymous # 28. May 2009, 13:25
That he was. I don't see what I should be jealous of though.
The response was long, though perhaps not very nice. It's gone now. Pressing delete and closing the browser usually is pretty final.
Let's just leave our little dispute behind. There's no point.

Why? Did you want one? I thought you didn't. I'm up for the next one then. I love flamewars. :P
