Wakas Thoughts on Life and Love and All Things in Between

And The Opera Person Wondered.........

Do we Opera folks care if anybody reads the stuff that we write?

Is a verbal 'high five' from some guy in Finland somehow gonna make you feel alright?

Of course we care, even if we say we don't

Check how many hits on your page..Hoping that at least one person will respond.

The man from Finland loves your latest blog entry, you never met this guy before!

But he just sent you an email, telling you he hopes you blog some more!

On the first day, way back in the day, when you posted your first post!

You thought 'My nearest and dearest might read this......maybe 3 other people at the most'!

Before you know it, you are receiving comments from all over the world!

You rub your eyes, and you realise you are now a part of the Opera world!

Do you suddenly start to think about how you would like to say things you think folks would like you to say?

Do you suddenly start to care about whether your new found global audience of three people will love you just the same any which way??

And then!.... Breaking news arrives, like a slap on the cheek.

The Opera Monkeys have made you Member Of The Week.

Does the Member Of The Week thing go to your head?

Or do you turn to your partner and say 'they should have given it to Ravo instead' (see editors note below)_

And so the Opera Blog Person wondered.......

Do I crave an Opera audience? ........Nah...... All I want is that my Mum might once in a while read the crap that I post up here............And maybe once in a while the occasional email from Finland, just to reassure me that the rest of the world is still there !

(Editors Note.....Opera legend Ravo was rightly honoured with the MOW prize some time ago, so I would ask any new visitors to this page keep this in mind when sending emails to Opera head office with MOW suggestions .....Thank you ).

Till the next time friends

Hi Waka,
Thanks for the mention, but if I'm an 'Opera Legend' it is only in my own mind! :D Hitslink does NOT show all of the visitors to your site unless you sign up for the paid version.

I mad a post on this subject last month, if anyone is interested. http://my.opera.com/Ravo/blog/show.dml/3436552

Just read Ravos blog entry as well as yours Waka. I feel the same way. Prior to the hitslink application you felt that each hit represented a visitor to your blog and there may be fans out there of your random oeuvre.

When hitslink revealed that 99.99% of your audience just came from random google searches such as "how to get drunk quickly" you realise, that, really, the only people reading your blog are actually the 2 or 3 people leaving a comment after it! :D

To a certain extent you become aware of this and your blogs change in tandem, and I know I worry about blogging less now I know that there isn't really an audience for it, and there has probably been a concurrent dip in effort when writing it. I just see it as an extension of my twitter and facebook existance now where I might moan for a bit longer and be a bit more personal as I'm anonymous.

I mean both you and me Waka are in the top 100 visited blogs, but I'm under no illusion that (in my case, certainly) this means I'm in the top 100 of popularity. Just that a lot of people really, really want to know "how to get drunk quickly" !

Wakajawaka 22. July 2009, 15:35

Thanks for the long comment there, Mr P!

'Worrying' about blogging is perhaps not something you need to spend too much time on

Are we in the top 100?? Yikes!! (signed photo, anybody??)

Maybe, like Pink Floyds Dark Side Of The Moon album, we will remain in the top 100 for the next 17 years??!

P.S. Mr P and my good self, Top 100 Bloggers, no less, are now available for weddings, funerals and barmitzvahs.

Booking info can be obtained from our new agent, Mossman!!:smile:

  Your rates should be higher than mine Waka seeing as you're something like no. 24 and I'm something like no.98!

I'm very much the support act! :D

Wakajawaka 22. July 2009, 19:29

Well...Ive just read the small print in our contract!!

After Mossman has taken his 96%, I guess its only fair that we split the remaining 4% 50-50!! :worried:

P*nut McAllister the 3rd and a half 22. July 2009, 19:44

What???? We need new management. I never trusted that Mossman. Shifty geezer he is!

Wakajawaka 22. July 2009, 20:25

 I agree!! 'Mossman, you're fired!!

P*nut McAllister the 3rd and a half 22. July 2009, 21:46

I'm going to start negotatiations with W*stock. Hope that's okay - It will be a strictly professional relationship!

Wakajawaka 22. July 2009, 23:44

 Aim high!! Im thinking a quality 40% between us would be worthy of our talents

If its good enough for Oasis.............

MossMan 23. July 2009, 05:46

Read the super-fine print... if you try to get out from under the contract then I'm legally obliged to kill you. Sorry.

P*nut McAllister the 3rd and a half 23. July 2009, 08:10

I think we signed the contract a bit quickly Waka. Our young dreams of fame and fortune dashed before they even started!

MossMan 23. July 2009, 10:43

Mwahahah! etc.

Wakajawaka 23. July 2009, 13:43
