Grazr in Opera Platform

,

Russell Beattie recently blogged suggesting that Grazr could be a neat mobile app

Well Russ, check it out

You can download a working copy here:

You will need to download either the Opera Platform browser or Application Player for series 60 from our download page to run the app.

It's a little slow on device and by no means complete, but I have not made any optimisations yet, I just spent an hour making it run. The details and optimisations will be the subject of a future posting.

Enjoy!

AWESOME!

I was actually thinking about downloading the opera SDK to try and do exactly this. I couldn't tell if the SDK works on Mac so I put off the downlaod and then I got distracted by other Grazr development issues. I think this is FANTASTIC that you got it running! Let me know if you need any help with optimizing it! I would love to offer this as a download off of Grazr.com!

Unfortunately I don't have a cool phone with opera mobile on it to test so at some point I should set up a dev machine to run the SDK.

I'd love to try this out on my Nokia 6600 but the download page you linked to above is just showing up blank for me. I installed the sis file but can't find an icon for it on the phone. Any ideas?

Jeremy: You need to register for the Opera Platform SDK group before you can download it.

I've downloaded file to Nokia 6680, but it does not register within default menu? Should it be referenced separately from Opera Mini as an application?

Russ, you also need to download the Opera Platform Application player for S60 that is available on the download page linked in the aticle. You will need to sign up at the link from virtuelvis comment to to gain access to the download page.

To clarify:

  • First, you need to sign up for the Opera Platform SDK Beta program. Registration is free, and entitles you to run five copies of the Opera Platform SDK on devices.
  • Next, you will need to download the Opera Platform Application Player from the download page Sharebear linked to.
  • Download the SIS from this blog post.
  • Transfer the two SIS files to your Series 60 phone
  • Install both SIS files to the memory card
  • A menu entry titled Web apps should now be available in your phone's application menu.
  • Note that you must complete registration of Opera Platform within 14 days,

Further, I strongly advice reading the documentation as linked to on the Opera Platform SDK download page: It should clarify a great deal.

Ok, I've got this installed on my 6630 now but the Grazr icon just doesn't do anything. All the other icons work fine but when I click on the Grazr icon nothing happens..... no matter how long I wait.....
